BROAD PROGRAMS

It is truly amazing what Rockford Public Schools offers to our community. Rockford is a minimally funded district in the State of Michigan. In case you were not aware, in RPS receives the same amount per pupil as the small district of Posen and $100 less than the Detroit City Public Schools (Per-Pupil Foundation Allowance 2005/06-2014/15 - Michigan Senate).
While our community would most certainly vote to increase operational funding to our local school district, this is not how the State of Michigan operates. However, RPS has a vast array of student experiences above and beyond the core curriculum required by the State. RPS is the only minimum funded district with a Spanish Immersion program. We are also blessed to have educators teaching four additional languages (German, French, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese), many early college credit opportunities (many taught by our own staff!), and the list goes on.
Nick wholeheartedly agrees with the current balance RPS shows in its funding, spending, and investment in programs. Any increase in the breadth of experiences our students are given will be looked at favorably by Nick while protecting the current staffing RPS currently has vested.
